Hi,

if someone is copying and pasting your tweets as there own, is there a rule that twitter has against this.

1) can i block the person from doing this. we are using #tags in the tweets as it is a tweet competition and each #tag gets points. However this person is copying my tweets (incorrect spelling, mistake, etcs) and tweeting my tweets under their profile and getting points.

2) Can anything be done about this.

Thanks

Hello Jamason,

You have run into the limitations of Facebook. There isn't anything else you can do.

A lot of people rely on Facebook as their primary online presence. As you have discovered the hard way, that's a bad choice. Facebook isn't set up to support you. Facebook is set up to take care of your friends instead. To Facebook, what you are attempting (sending the same message to 3000 people) appears to be spam, and they won't let it happen. They don't want Facebook users getting spam. It doesn't matter that they are your friends. Facebook still won't allow it.

Going forward, if you expect to have similar kinds of events, I suggest that you create an email list and start using email to reach these people. Facebook is not the correct venue to manage a large event, as you have found. An email list is the only way to have permission to invite people to your events. And even then, you have to stay within the existing spam laws with your email delivery.

The only thing you can do at this point is to post on your wall and ask your friends to share the event on their own walls. That will help you get the word out. Reach everyone you can through email. Facebook isn't designed to accomplish what you want. There isn't much more you can do about this weekend, but you can start planning now to not be in this kind of bind in the future.

Good luck!

Hello Lee.

It sounds like everything is actually working perfectly for you. It's just that business pages and personal profiles have a different effect when they like a page. For example, when a business likes a page, the like counter does not go up! I know that is weird, but that's how it works. Only when people like a page does the count go up. You can tell that you are on a page you like because the like button is gone. If you want to see a list of the pages you have liked, go to your Info page and look under "Likes and Interests." There is an option to display more if you have liked more pages than normally display by default. You can unlike any page by going to that page and clicking Unlike in the options at the very bottom of the left column.

You mentioned that occasionally the like button misbehaves. That's pretty common. In fact, every Facebook feature misbehaves from time to time. Some features even disappear occasionally for short periods of time. I think Facebook is constantly having problems in one area or another, which I understand because it's a huge set of computer programs with lots of users every minute of every day. Facebook is never down. I think they make changes and deal with small problems by shutting off features, etc. But they try to keep those kinds of things very low key. If something doesn't work as it should, you can either wait a few minutes and try again (which usually works), or I've found that if I refresh my browser, things start working again. I can't tell you how to refresh your browser because they are all different. Look for a button that is an arrow in a circle or two arrows making a circle. It's like a small do-over, and it fixes a lot of things. But it also looses anything you were working on, so don't be surprised if that happens.

Don't delete anything. It sounds like you have the perfect setup going and working. You just didn't know what to expect.

Charlene,
Bless your heart for answering all these questions! This information is so hard to find. Hopefully you will have some advice for me too.

I do not have a personal profile, and don't want one. I created a FB page, I guess with a business account.

I find I cannot use the "like" buttons on outside websites. One of two things happens: the "like" button's comment box will open, allow me to type and click "submit", but the post will never show up on my business page. Or, the "like" button's comment box will flash open momentarily and then automatically close before I can use it, and the Like counter will remove my like.

I had a friend sign into her personal account from my computer and try to like the same pages. Her comments went through to her personal FB profile.

Am I correct to conclude that pulling content into my FB page via "like" buttons is not a functionality available with a business-only account?

I thought about deleting the page altogether and starting over with a personal profile and adding the business page to that, but I fear I will lose my vanity url, for which there is no good alternative.

Any ideas for me?

Many thanks, Lee

Hello, Nita.

Thanks for your honest feedback. I wish I could tell you more about the process. My business is social media, and not website design or web development. The next step depends on how your site is built. Is it static HTML? WordPress? Flash? Drupal? or another development platform? The bones of your website determines the procedure and tools you need for the next step. Depending on how your site is built, you may also need to know how to adjust the CSS for the location you choose. Everyone can choose a different location, and how you put things in each location is different. There is no way I can help everyone with every possible combination of background skills, website structure, and technical aptitude.

The first step for you is to find out how your website is constructed. Who built it? That person can tell you. From there, you can start to use Google to find instructions for how to do things. But just be aware, this is not a simple world you are entering. If you don't understand how websites are constructed and the components work together, you may need to either take courses or hire someone to do this. Some of the website options are much easier than others.

My only goal with this article is to let people know that they SHOULD be putting their social media passport on their site, and to make sure they understand that you can get the icons for free. Actually getting that step done is far outside the realm of my intentions and my business.

Good luck to you.
