    Great e-book Charlene! Congratulations!!!

One question I have is, how important is it to have a presence on twitter if you don’t follow anyone. Also, can you help me better understand the difference between broadcasting and conversation and why that is important? Is there a ratio of how much I should broadcast to how much conversation I should initiate/participate in?

    Thanks! Deb

What you are talking about, Deb, is building a Twitter strategy customized for your business needs. If your business isn’t ready to talk on Twitter, or if you haven’t developed a Twitter strategy, there is still value in following people. Twitter is a great source of information.

Broadcasting in a generic term people use for sending out messages that you don’t expect to start a conversation. For example, every day I broadcast messages about articles on my site that people might find useful. Conversation means that you are actually talking to people. You might write a tweet that asks a question to start a conversation. Or you might reply to someone to continue a conversation. Conversation is important for building community. Broadcast messages are good for getting out information. For most businesses, I recommend more conversation than broadcasting, but that’s general advice. Each business decides for itself if broadcasting is beneficial to their online community. It’s just that broadcasting isn’t the same as talking with people.

great e-book – thanks, really helped get my head around it. (I hope!) and have learnt a lot from it tonight! :)

Might be a good idea to add a page in your next version on the common “Do Nots”….for example, today is my first day tweeting, and after only 5 tweets I got suspended (temporarily – it’s ok again now) but I’m still not completely clear why – I *think* it was because two tweets I retweeted I did manually (basically I was trying out the different types in your book) and both already had multiple mentions in them, so when I copy-pasted the whole tweet I also sent “multiple unsolicited mentions” which is, it would seem, against the rules…was a bit of a shock to be suspended so early on with quite a full-on warning from Twitter…*gringe* …anyway, hopefully I’ve understood my mistake correctly and won’t screw up again….but thought I’d mention it in case any of your other readers fall into the same trap…
    thanks again :)
